About the Role
We are seeking a mid-level Mechanical Design Engineer with over three years of post-internship industry experience to join our London-based studio. Our company partners with leading global brands, creating innovative physical and digital products across various sectors such as smart devices, VR/AR, technical furniture, and communication technologies.
Key Responsibilities and Skills
This role involves technical product development, collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams—especially industrial designers—and designing for manufacturability in high-volume production environments. You will work on projects requiring continual learning and adaptability to different industries and challenges, producing mechanical designs suitable for diverse manufacturing processes including plastic injection molding, CNC machining, and additive manufacturing.
Qualifications and Experience Required
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline. Industrial design graduates are not considered.
- Strong proficiency with SolidWorks CAD modeling and advanced CAD practices like sheet metal design, technical drawings, and file organization.
- Understanding and application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and BS8888 standards.
- Experience in producing functional prototypes via 3D printing and manual methods.
- Sound knowledge of engineering mechanics, mathematics, and material properties.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with integrated electro-mechanical assemblies and familiarity with electronic components such as sensors, motors, PCBs, and valves.
- Prototyping and programming using platforms like Arduino and Raspberry Pi.
- Insights into manufacturing tolerances, tolerance stack analysis, and vendor management including RFQs and Chinese supplier experience.
- Exposure to Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Adobe InDesign software.
- Experience working on consumer goods, electronics, furniture, exercise equipment, and transportation products.
