Role Summary

The Learning & Development Manager is responsible for designing, managing, and executing comprehensive learning programs and content that support employee growth at every career stage. This role combines instructional design expertise, learning system administration, and leadership development to translate organizational requirements into measurable and engaging learning experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain training programs applying adult learning theories and instructional design methodologies like ADDIE or SAM, including SCORM-compliant e-learning content.
  • Create supporting materials such as facilitator guides, participant workbooks, job aids, quick-reference guides, and scripts for video content.
  • Partner with subject matter experts across departments to convert technical knowledge into learner-focused content.
  • Design and update leadership development initiatives including Manager in Training and Train-the-Trainer programs to ensure consistent field training quality.
  • Create role-specific learning pathways that incorporate 30/60/90-day milestones to speed competency development and reduce early workforce turnover.
  • Align competency frameworks with learning journeys, setting clear expectations for knowledge, skills, and performance at each career juncture.
  • Administer the learning management system (LMS), managing course setup, user enrollment, assignments, assessments, and reporting.
  • Monitor training progress, assessments, and certification achievements, maintaining accuracy and audit readiness.
  • Quickly resolve LMS access, enrollment, and content delivery issues, escalating when necessary to reduce learner impact.
  • Implement evaluation frameworks like Kirkpatrick to assess training effectiveness on learner satisfaction, knowledge, behavioral change, and business results.
  • Produce regular reports analyzing completion rates, assessment outcomes, knowledge gaps, and return on investment in training.
  • Identify systemic learning gaps and recommend targeted training interventions.
  • Collaborate with leadership to plan and support broad company development initiatives and training projects.
  • Travel regionally as required (up to 25%) to lead training sessions, workshops, and to partner with field leaders on-site.
  • Maintain organized training documentation and generate post-training reports with actionable insights for continuous improvement.

Who You Are

  • Located in or willing to relocate to Gilbert, AZ, and available for full-time onsite presence due to the collaborative nature of the role.
  • A creator of original training programs from concept to implementation, with demonstrable experience in needs analysis and program rollout.
  • Experienced in instructional design frameworks such as ADDIE or SAM, comfortable designing both macro programs and detailed learning content.
  • A leader or mentor with experience in training facilitation or coaching, enthusiastic about growing people alongside developing material.
  • Experienced in multi-unit field training ideally in retail, hospitality, or service sectors, understanding the nuances of frontline learning needs.
  • Proficient LMS administrator and problem solver for learning technologies, providing end-to-end system ownership and support.
  • Structured and persistent in managing ambiguous challenges, turning broad goals into concrete, measurable training solutions.
  • Effective communicator capable of engaging executives and frontline managers, bridging strategic vision and practical execution.

Requirements

  • Confirmed expertise in instructional design with practical use of ADDIE, SAM, or equivalent methodologies.
  • Proficiency with e-learning development software such as Articulate 360 (Storyline/Rise), Synthesia, or similar tools.
  • Experience managing and administering Learning Management Systems.
  • Adept in training evaluation practices and data-driven analysis.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication capabilities.
  • Highly organized, detail-focused, and able to juggle multiple projects with shifting priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills enabling collaboration across a range of stakeholders from frontline staff to senior management.
  • Willingness to travel regionally up to 25% to support in-person training and field engagement.

Education & Professional Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Organizational Development, Communications, Education, or related fields preferred; equivalent relevant experience accepted.
  • Between 2-4 years of progressive experience in instructional design, learning & development, or training program creation, ideally within multi-site retail, hospitality, or service industries.
  • Certifications such as Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) or similar credentials are advantageous.

Physical and Work Environment

  • Work primarily involves prolonged computer-based tasks in an office setting.
  • Site visits require standing, walking, and active facilitation.
  • Capability to lift items up to 15 pounds as needed during site activities.
