Role Overview
This position is for a Head Baseball Coach based in New York, New York, within a collegiate athletics environment. The role is classified as full-time and is focused on leading and supporting the baseball program while aligning with the academic mission of the institution.
Compensation and Support
The annual salary for this role is $20,000. In addition, professional development funding and recruiting budgets are provided to support program growth and coaching effectiveness.
Core Duties
- Be able to work weekday practice windows of 7:00-9:00am or 12:00-3:00pm, along with weekday and weekend games.
- Promote the academic progress of student-athletes while supporting their personal and career development.
- Contribute to the planning, oversight, evaluation, and day-to-day coordination of the baseball program.
- Lead practice organization, game-day operations, team scheduling, and travel planning.
- Maintain discipline and appropriate conduct among students during practices, competitions, and off-campus travel.
- Direct and support assistant coaches.
- Recruit high-caliber prospective students to strengthen the program.
- Participate in fundraising efforts and alumni engagement initiatives.
- Use professional development opportunities to improve both individual capability and the success of the program.
- Attend relevant campus, conference, regional, and national meetings when needed.
- Follow applicable federal and state regulations, as well as the rules and procedures of CUNY, CUNY Athletic Conference, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, and NCAA Division III.
- Arrange tournament travel, manage assigned budgets, support program planning and forecasting, and help with team-building and community outreach efforts.
- Work nights, weekends, and overnight trips for away games and tournaments as required.
Education and Experience
A bachelor’s degree and at least two years of full-time relevant experience are required.
Preferred Qualifications
- A valid New York State driver’s license.
- Current First Aid and CPR/AED certification, maintained throughout employment.
- Background in hiring, supervising, and training support staff.
- Strong customer service and staff-relations abilities.
- Well-developed organizational skills.

The John Jay College of Criminal Justice Athletics Department offers a competitive and well-rounded athletics experience that supports the institution’s academic goals.
