About the Role
Babcock Power is a global leader specializing in innovative steam generation and energy-related products for the power generation and processing industries. We seek a Fuel Equipment Design Engineer to lead work on fuel systems and combustion equipment, primarily focusing on natural gas delivery systems and low NOx gas-fired combustion technologies applicable to industrial and utility boilers.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead design engineering efforts on projects focused on development of Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) for natural gas delivery, coal, and oil-fired systems.
- Design, specify, or select suitable equipment such as natural gas filtration, pressure reduction, flow control devices, burner components, and auxiliaries.
- Perform sizing and design of fuel piping, supports, and burners for coal firing systems; prepare and review oil firing system equipment and fittings P&IDs.
- Meet expectations overseeing natural gas-fired boiler projects and develop expertise in fuel system and various firing system designs.
- Support proposal and sales activities through technical presentations, consultative guidance, and financial estimating.
- Develop field test procedures, author reports, and lead commissioning and optimization of fuel systems and burner emissions.
- Create and maintain engineering standards related to equipment sizing and performance prediction.
- Adopt knowledge of engineering division standards, contract and drawing file systems, and quality procedures.
- Gain experience with turnkey Fossil Fuel Power Plant projects, including cross-functional teamwork and site erection and commissioning support.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering required; Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of eight years’ experience within the power generation or related industries.
- Familiarity with ASME B31 Piping Design, NFPA Codes, and relevant product applications is advantageous.
- Valid passport and willingness to travel as needed.
- Field start-up and operations experience is beneficial.
- Experience using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software is a plus.
- Exposure to 3D software packages, drawing extraction, and review of 3D models is desired; knowledge of material standards, control valve sizing, and pressure drop calculations is also advantageous.
