Electrical Engineer - Data Centers

Position Overview

This role is for an Electrical Engineer specializing in data centers, based in Germany. You will contribute your expertise in electrical engineering to support the development and acquisition of data center infrastructure designed to power next-generation AI cloud platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead technical evaluations of prospective data center sites including colocation and build-to-suit projects.
• Conduct thorough electrical due diligence focusing on power capacity, distribution systems, utility availability, and infrastructure readiness.
• Define electrical system strategies such as power distribution topology, redundancy plans, and equipment selection processes.
• Assess utility interconnection, on-site generation, UPS configurations, and redundancy setups like N, N+1, and 2N schemes.
• Make Go/No-Go recommendations based on technical feasibility, risks, and project demands.
• Evaluate utility capacities, substation needs, interconnection timelines, and infrastructure constraints impacting delivery schedules.
• Analyze electrical equipment supply, vendor relationships, cost factors, and scheduling impacts.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to formulate design strategies, commissioning standards, and readiness criteria.
• Provide guidance on switchgear, generators, UPS systems, and electrical configurations for candidate sites.
• Ensure documentation of electrical design assumptions and commitments throughout project phases.
• Identify and address electrical risks prior to construction to prevent delays.
• Work closely with internal teams, utility providers, consultants, suppliers, and commissioning partners to guarantee successful project execution.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years of experience in electrical engineering related to data centers, mission-critical power systems, or similar infrastructure.
• Proficient in medium-voltage distribution, switchgear, UPS technologies, generators, and utility interconnection processes.
• Expertise in evaluating electrical feasibility for data center projects and capacity planning.
• In-depth knowledge of electrical redundancy architectures, equipment selection criteria, and capex considerations.
• Preferred experience with hyperscale data centers, AI infrastructure, or large-scale technical environments.
• Familiarity with EPMS/BMS control integration and electrical commissioning procedures.
• Understanding of utility interconnection agreements and electrical infrastructure planning is advantageous.
• Experience performing technical due diligence for colocation or build-to-suit electrical infrastructure projects.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience required.
• Professional Engineer (PE) certification or similar credentials are a plus.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of translating complex technical concepts for executive audiences.
• Ability to work independently in dynamic, ambiguous contexts while establishing scalable technical processes.
