Role Overview
As part of its rapid expansion, Descartes seeks Data Scientists in London to enhance its underwriting functions by developing innovative climate models and forecasting tools. This role emphasizes creating novel algorithms and risk products while supporting the company’s technological platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Developing and refining algorithms, risk models, and products tailored for B2B clients.
- Exploring and deploying cutting-edge statistical and machine learning techniques to differentiate the company's offerings.
- Contributing to the enhancement of Descartes' technology stack.
- Collaborating closely with business stakeholders to address client needs and improve technical solutions.
- Assuming leadership duties as personal and organizational growth progresses.
- Exercising independent and pragmatic judgment to drive appropriate technical decisions.
Candidate Profile
Experience & Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in data science, computer science, applied mathematics, statistics, meteorology, or related fields.
- Prior experience such as an extended internship in data science or climate modeling is advantageous.
Technical Skills:
- Strong foundation in statistics, applied mathematics, and machine learning methodologies.
- Ability to design and implement efficient, high-performance algorithms.
- Proficiency in Python programming, particularly with libraries like scikit-learn.
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
- Knowledge of an additional language (e.g., Chinese, French, Italian, German, Spanish) is a plus.
