Role Overview

We are seeking a full-time Data Scientist to join our team focused on harnessing advanced analytics to drive impactful insights for our charity partners and donors. Reporting to the Director of Data & Analytics, you will engage in developing predictive models, analyzing donor behavior, and uncovering usage patterns that enable data-driven decisions. This role is designed for candidates eager to apply statistical and machine learning techniques toward positive social change.

Key Responsibilities

Become an expert in charity data architecture and storage across various systems.
Perform advanced analyses on donor behavior, fundraising trends, and platform user engagement.
Develop, test, and implement predictive models such as donor segmentation, churn prediction, and lifetime value estimation.
Investigate large datasets to discover patterns, anomalies, and optimization opportunities.
Collaborate with product, engineering, and marketing teams to assess experiments and evaluate feature/campaign effectiveness.
Create accessible dashboards and visualizations to complement in-depth analytical findings.
Contribute to research exploring trends in Canadian philanthropy and the charitable sector.
Communicate insights effectively through tailored narratives for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Maintain data quality, documentation, and uphold analytical best practices.
Apply foundational AI and machine learning techniques supporting projects like recommendation systems, classification models, and automated insight generation.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Economics, or related disciplines.
Proficiency in Python or R and experience writing SQL queries.
1 to 2 years of practical experience with statistical modeling, machine learning, and experimental design.
Interest or budding experience with AI/ML methods such as classification, clustering, natural language processing, or recommendation algorithms.
Willingness to adopt new tools, frameworks, and AI-driven technologies as they emerge in the field.
Strong ability to interpret complex analytical outcomes and translate them into actionable business insights.
Experience with data visualization platforms like Tableau, Power BI, or equivalents for 1 to 2 years.
A cooperative and mission-focused attitude with enthusiasm to contribute meaningfully.
Curiosity for data exploration, asking insightful questions that reveal underlying truths.
Excellent storytelling capabilities that clarify the significance of analytic results for stakeholders.
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
Knowledge of CRM tools such as Salesforce and web analytics, plus background in A/B testing or experimental design are advantageous.
Ability to serve as a trusted advisor to internal teams, driving informed changes.
Strong aptitude for fast learning, including embracing challenges, seeking help when needed, and iterating rapidly.

Additional Information

This role is primarily remote but may require occasional presence at our Toronto office for collaborative activities. The annual salary range is CAD 70,000 to 80,000, with offers determined by experience, skills, and impact potential as assessed through the hiring process.
