Overview
The Data Governance Officer will play a pivotal role in implementing the Data Governance framework, platform, policies, and processes at the Bank of Georgia. This position is dedicated to managing and enhancing the quality and governance of the Bank's data assets.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain the operational aspects of the Data Governance platform.
- Collaborate closely with Business Data Stewards, Data Owners, IT teams, and other stakeholders to advance data governance efforts and ensure compliance with governance standards.
- Serve as the primary liaison for Business Data Stewards organization-wide.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to Business Data Stewards and other participants in data governance.
- Maintain and update governance procedures and operational models.
- Oversee quality control to ensure consistent and accurate metadata and stewardship practices.
- Support documentation and upkeep of data lineage and metadata frameworks.
- Address and resolve any gaps in data quality, metadata, lineage, and ownership.
- Coordinate data quality issue resolution and manage escalations effectively.
- Participate actively in governance committees and support related activities.
- Assist in the continuous improvement and implementation of Data Governance processes.
- Monitor compliance with policies and the execution of controls, including framework adoption within business domains.
- Track and report on Data Governance progress, adoption metrics, and provide governance-related reporting.
Qualifications & Skills
- Minimum of five years' experience in data management, governance, or large-scale data projects.
- In-depth understanding of Data Governance principles, established frameworks, and industry best practices.
- Hands-on experience with Data Warehouse development, Master Data Management (MDM), Data Modeling, or ETL processes.
- Practical insight into data cataloging concepts such as data dictionaries, business glossaries, and metadata management.
- Familiarity with Data Governance platforms is a distinct advantage.
- Advanced proficiency in SQL for performing data queries, extraction, and analysis.
- Knowledge of Data Quality Management, Data Privacy, Data Security, and compliance with regulations including Georgia's Personal Data Protection law is desirable.
- Experience documenting data workflows, drafting governance standards and procedures, plus creating process diagrams (e.g., BPMN).
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities to effectively coordinate between business functions, IT, and senior management.
- Experience within the banking or financial services sector, or working with financial datasets, will be considered a plus.
