Role Overview
Reporting to the Commercial Data Manager, the Data Engineer will design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and services that integrate data from various sources. This role supports group-level strategic business units by ensuring data reliability, governance, and accessibility to drive analytics, business intelligence, and AI initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and maintain robust data pipelines for ingestion, transformation, and serving of data from internal and external systems.
- Support the operation of the Group data lake and warehouse, ensuring consistency and scalability across business units.
- Integrate diverse data domains, including commercial, marketing, consumer, financial, and operational data into unified data environments.
- Develop and manage data models and semantic layers tailored for analytics and BI use cases.
- Collaborate with business and analytics teams to translate informational needs into usable data structures.
- Implement data governance practices such as cataloguing, lineage tracking, access control, and data masking to comply with standards and protect sensitive information.
- Continuously monitor and enhance data quality, reliability, and timeliness across data assets.
- Monitor data pipeline performance and proactively troubleshoot issues to ensure stable and efficient data delivery.
- Adopt modern engineering best practices including version control, automated testing, and documentation.
- Participate in evolving Group data engineering standards and tools in partnership with IT and architecture teams.
- Utilize AI-driven tools like large language models and automation to boost development speed, quality, and efficiency.
- Explore innovative data engineering methods that align with the Group’s digital transformation and AI strategies.
Candidate Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of five years’ experience in data engineering, data warehousing, or business intelligence roles.
- Expertise in Python programming and SQL for data manipulation and automation.
- Hands-on experience with cloud-based data platforms such as Azure Data Services, Snowflake, or Google BigQuery.
- Strong knowledge of data modeling, ETL/ELT pipeline design, data warehouse, and Lakehouse architectures.
- Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools like Apache Airflow.
- Experience with version control systems (Git) and understanding of CI/CD principles relevant to data workflows.
- Bonus: Experience with distributed data processing technologies such as Apache Spark or Databricks.
- Ability to transform business needs into technical data solutions effectively.
- Excellent collaborative skills within diverse, international teams and clear communication to non-technical stakeholders.
- Demonstrates responsibility and ownership for managing data products.
- Keen learner with an interest in AI-native and contemporary data engineering practices.
- Results-driven with a practical focus on generating business value.
