Overview
The Controller leads and manages the daily accounting activities of the Bank to ensure accuracy and integrity in financial records including the general ledger and subsidiary accounts. This role collaborates with operational leaders across the Bank, safeguarding financial data, supporting strategic goals, and promoting a culture of compliance, accountability, and ongoing process enhancements.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the general ledger's accuracy, manage daily accounting tasks, treasury functions, operational reconciliations, and journal entries.
- Lead month-end and year-end closing processes, reconciling balance sheet accounts and analyzing income statements for timely and precise financial reports.
- Develop, document, implement, and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure consistency and operational excellence.
- Manage accounts payable functions and associated internal controls.
- Maintain payroll controls and procedures supporting employee benefit administration.
- Coordinate with external and internal auditors, regulatory examiners, and financial partners to ensure compliance and thorough audits.
- Maintain the Bank’s tax records and support documentation in collaboration with external tax consultants for compliant tax reporting.
- Work alongside departmental leaders to facilitate operational strategies, projects, and process improvements throughout the Bank.
- Assist in preparing and submitting financial and regulatory reports.
- Continuously identify opportunities to enhance accounting processes, risk mitigation, efficiency, and the control environment.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in accounting required; CPA certification is preferred. Equivalent accounting experience in community banking or public accounting may be considered.
- Five to ten years of progressive accounting experience with proven ability to design, implement, and sustain internal controls for general ledger and diverse subsidiary information, ideally within community banks or financial institutions.
- Proficient use of Microsoft 365 to organize, store, and govern accounting documents, policies, and control records; commitment to continuous process and workflow enhancements.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving capabilities with excellent attention to detail and structured thinking.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, capable of effective collaboration with senior leaders, auditors, regulators, and external partners.
- Proven leadership skills in mentoring staff, fostering accountability, and cultivating a high-functioning accounting team.
