Job description

Job Overview

The Construction Planner plays a vital role in developing and overseeing the project master schedule. This involves interpreting engineering drawings and tender documentation to create a detailed, logic-based Construction Baseline Program that identifies the project's critical path.

Key Responsibilities

The Planner ensures synchronization between time and cost by applying extensive construction expertise to establish practical production rates, optimize resource allocations, and link all activities with accurate engineering logic. Acting as an early warning mechanism, the Planner provides the essential documented data necessary to support the company during audits and contractual disputes.

Education & Certification Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related construction discipline.
  • Professional registration or certification (such as ERB) is desirable.
  • Advanced certification in project scheduling software like MS Project or Primavera P6 is required.
  • Specialized training and certification in CCS (Candy) Link/Planning module.

Experience Criteria

  • A minimum of 10 to 12 years professional experience in civil engineering.
  • At least five years of hands-on site engineering or site management experience before transitioning into planning to ensure practical understanding.
  • Experience in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region and familiarity with projects funded by the World Bank or African Development Bank (AfDB) is highly advantageous.
  • Demonstrated history preparing baseline schedules for large infrastructure projects exceeding R500 million, including roads, bridges, dams, or power plants.
  • Proven ability to prepare programs compliant with Development Finance Institution (DFI) standards, suited for audit scrutiny.
