About the Role

Community Visitors play a vital role in overseeing the wellbeing of children, youth, and adults within various support services as defined by the Public Guardian Act 2014. They conduct assessments and inquiries into the quality and adequacy of services provided to vulnerable individuals, championing their rights through advocacy, reporting, and managing complaints.

This is an Identified position reserved for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples in line with anti-discrimination legislation to ensure culturally appropriate representation and advocacy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine visits and thorough investigations regarding the quality and sufficiency of support services at visitable locations, ensuring compliance with statutory duties and internal policies.
  • Evaluate how well information on rights is communicated to those being visited, including children, youth, and adults.
  • Identify any issues affecting individuals by listening to their views, making observations, and reviewing relevant documentation at the sites.
  • Provide advocacy and support to help individuals address concerns, participate in decisions, and navigate complaint processes.
  • Understand and operate within the legislative and regulatory frameworks guiding service delivery to the visited individuals.
  • Exhibit strong interpersonal skills to quickly establish trust with diverse groups, maintain resilience, and uphold professional boundaries.
  • Communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms, including report writing and computer literacy.
  • Respect confidentiality and privacy laws when handling and sharing sensitive information.
  • Keep accurate and timely records following governance and reporting standards.
  • Participate actively in all required training sessions, team meetings, supervision, and opportunities for professional growth.

Qualifications and Conditions

  • Must hold a current C Class driver's license and have access to a roadworthy, registered Queensland vehicle insured with Compulsory Third Party coverage.
  • Applicants must have, or obtain with support, a Working with Children Check clearance (Blue Card) as a mandatory requirement.
  • No formal educational qualifications are necessary; however, a strong dedication to protecting vulnerable community members' rights is essential.
