About the Role

The Queensland Department is dedicated to safeguarding communities by addressing youth crime and supporting victims through a comprehensive approach. The department aims to provide early intervention, statutory Youth Justice services, and detention facilities that hold young offenders accountable. It also offers support programs and community partnerships to aid young people in becoming responsible members of society, along with trauma-informed aid to victims to facilitate their recovery and ensure their perspectives are valued.

Key Responsibilities

• Exhibit cultural capability or a commitment to developing it, fostering an inclusive environment aligned with the Human Rights Act 2019, especially supporting programs that preserve cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
• Manage statutory responsibilities by monitoring youth offenders' compliance with court orders and addressing factors that increase the risk of re-offending.
• Implement culturally respectful, collaborative, and evidence-based interventions to proactively reduce recidivism, including restorative justice initiatives.
• Collaborate effectively with team members and various internal and external stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes for offenders, victims, families, and the community.
• Prepare and deliver verbal and written reports to the Children's Court, including conducting court interviews and drafting presentence reports, affidavits, and related documents to support optimal outcomes for young people in the justice system.
• Maintain accurate records and manage information to uphold accountability standards.
• Engage actively in ongoing professional development, including training, supervision, and accreditation, to enhance contribution to organizational goals.

Candidate Profile

Applicants will be evaluated based on their prior experience, acquired knowledge, competencies, development potential, and personal qualities. All staff are expected to exemplify leadership behaviors in accordance with the leadership competencies outlined for Queensland government roles. This position operates within the Community Care occupational group.
