Role overview
QBE Insurance is building a new Eligibility team within its Workers’ Compensation Nominal Insurer business. The position is based in Newcastle, New South Wales, with flexibility to work from Parramatta or Newcastle, and follows a hybrid arrangement combining office and work-from-home days.
This hire is intended to support legislative changes affecting the way workers’ compensation claims are assessed, especially matters involving psychological injury. The focus of the role is on eligibility evaluation and claim decisions, not on full end-to-end case management. It suits someone who is organised, decisive, and comfortable operating in a structured, process-led setting.
What you will do
- Review claims and decide eligibility and liability outcomes for a large volume of Nominal Insurer matters.
- Use applicable laws, guidelines, and internal frameworks to reach accurate, timely, and compliant decisions aligned with reform requirements.
- Handle shifting priorities across a fast-moving workload without owning a traditional claim portfolio.
- Explain eligibility outcomes clearly and with empathy to injured workers, employers, legal representatives, and internal teams.
- Keep records precise and compliant to meet regulatory, contractual, and audit expectations.
- Help shape a newly formed team by contributing to continuous improvement and new ways of working as reforms roll out.
What we are looking for
- Background in workers’ compensation, CTP, legal, or disputes-related claims work, with experience handling eligibility, liability, or decision-based cases.
- Strong grasp of legislation and statutory frameworks, with the confidence to interpret and apply them in a changing environment.
- Well-developed planning and time-management skills, with the ability to stay effective under pressure in a high-volume role.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex decisions in a fair and professional way.
- Good judgement, resilience, and close attention to detail when dealing with sensitive or urgent matters.
- A collaborative and adaptable approach, plus a willingness to learn and support a team navigating change.
Benefits
- Hybrid working model that combines home and office work to support better work-life balance.
- Access to holistic wellbeing support, including coaching, nutrition support, confidential counselling, and financial and legal guidance.
- 18 weeks of gender-equal flexible parental leave for all new parents, including paid superannuation.
Additional information
This is a full-time employee role. QBE describes itself as an international insurer operating across 26 countries with more than 13,000 employees, and says it aims to become a more consistent and innovative risk partner.
Applicants selected for the role must complete work rights, police, and credit checks through QBE’s online provider as a condition of employment. QBE also states that it is an equal opportunity employer and follows equal employment opportunity laws in each jurisdiction where it operates.
If access support, alternative work arrangements, or connection with employee networks is needed, candidates may contact [email protected].
