Business Intelligence Developer

Role Overview

Our client, located in County Westmeath, is seeking a permanent Business Intelligence Developer to join their engineering team. This role focuses on designing, developing, and maintaining BI solutions that convert complex datasets into insightful, actionable business intelligence. By collaborating with both business stakeholders and technical teams, the developer ensures that dependable reporting and analytics support strategic decision-making throughout the organization.

Responsibilities

• Create and maintain interactive Power BI dashboards that deliver precise, impactful business insights.
• Convert business needs into dynamic reporting capabilities, incorporating visualizations, KPIs, drill-through options, filters, and intuitive navigation.
• Build and sustain semantic data models to guarantee consistent and trustworthy data for reporting and self-service analytics.
• Develop efficient DAX measures, calculations, and business rules adhering to industry best practices.
• Enhance report and data model performance by refining data structures, logic, visual performance, and overall solution efficiency.
• Operate within Microsoft Fabric and Power BI Service environments to manage workspaces, data deployments, refresh cycles, and application releases.
• Apply and uphold security protocols including workspace permissions and Row-Level Security to ensure secure report access.
• Assist with testing, quality assurance, and user acceptance, troubleshooting issues and implementing improvements as needed.
• Document technical details of reports, data models, calculations, data sources, refresh plans, and support workflows.
• Monitor operational reporting including scheduled data refreshes, production support, problem resolution, and release management.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with data engineers, analysts, and business teams to deliver superior BI solutions.
• Champion best practices concerning BI development, data governance, solution design, and reporting standards.

Required Skills and Experience

• Demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining BI solutions in a commercial setting.
• Expertise with Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, DAX, Power Query, semantic modeling, and performance tuning.
• Experience using Microsoft Fabric or similar cloud-based analytics tools.
• Proficient SQL abilities, including complex query writing, optimization, view development, and dataset validation.
• Strong understanding of data modeling concepts, dimensional modeling, and integration with modern data platforms.
• Skilled at translating business requirements into effective, scalable reporting solutions.
• Excellent analytical skills with a keen eye for detail and problem-solving capabilities.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities to work across both business and technical audiences.
• Ability to juggle several priorities across project delivery, ongoing improvements, and operational support.
• Proactive attitude towards continuous learning, improvement, and sharing expertise.
