About the role
Qantas, founded in the Queensland outback in 1920, has become Australia’s largest airline group across regional, domestic and international travel. Alongside its core airline brands, Qantas and Jetstar, the Group also operates a number of subsidiary businesses that support its wider operations.
This is a 12-month fixed-term opportunity based at the Mascot Corporate Campus in Sydney. The role sits within Workforce Planning and focuses on shaping long-term staffing strategies for airports and freight. It is a leadership position with a strong emphasis on stakeholder engagement, business partnering, and delivering practical workforce solutions that support the Airports, Freight and Group strategy.

What you will do
- Develop, implement, and track long-range workforce and resource plans for the airports and freight functions.
- Support strategic transformation work across the Airports and Freight portfolios through active engagement with stakeholders and business partners.
- Contribute to a variety of programs, projects, and long-term initiatives connected to workforce planning.
- Lead a workforce planning team responsible for safe, efficient, and cost-conscious seasonal planning and monthly rosters.
- Oversee roster rule configuration and ongoing maintenance.
- Manage master roster build activities, including creation up to 28 days out.
What the role requires
- Deep experience in workforce planning, especially in long-term strategic resource planning.
- Hands-on background in building and maintaining effective labour plans.
- The ability to influence people across all levels, strengthen working relationships, and deliver solutions aligned to business needs.
- Proven capability in leading and managing large teams.
- Strong numerical and analytical ability, including interpreting and presenting data for business decision-making.
- Solid understanding of rostering practices, planning principles, and process design.
- A commitment to improving roster efficiency and utilisation in a complex organisation.
- Experience with change management and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Sound judgment, planning capability, and problem-solving skills.
- A proactive mindset, openness to learning, and comfort working through change.
- Advanced systems capability, including Microsoft Office to macro/VBA level, plus experience supporting the design of complex specialised software.
- Experience with GroundStar planning and rostering systems is preferred.
