Werkstudent Data Science (m/w/d)

About the Role

Starting in August 2026, this role offers an exciting opportunity to apply your skills in Data Science, Machine Learning, and Python for developing data-driven solutions tailored to industrial contexts. You will engage with real-world machine data and experiment with various AI and Machine Learning methods to both test and enhance them.

The position is with an innovative startup, providing a platform for you to contribute your ideas, gain valuable hands-on experience bridging data, machine learning, and industrial applications.

Location: Hamburg (hybrid model), with a mandatory onsite presence once per week. Candidates must reside within commuting distance of Hamburg.

Employment Type: Student work with flexible hours.

Key Responsibilities

• Explore and preprocess data sets.
• Analyze and prepare new machine-generated datasets.
• Evaluate and compare diverse AI and Machine Learning techniques.
• Develop and enhance automated data processing pipelines.
• Contribute to the creation of AI methods, including Explainable AI, Unsupervised Learning, and Domain Adaptation.

Requirements

Essential:

• Current university enrollment in Computer Science, Mathematics/Statistics, Physics, or related fields; applications from other disciplines are also welcome.
• Proficient Python programming skills with experience in libraries such as Pandas, NumPy/SciPy, TensorFlow or PyTorch, scikit-learn, and Plotly.
• Strong understanding of statistics and probability.
• Fluency in German or English.
• Ability to work independently and methodically, with enthusiasm for tackling new technical challenges.

Desirable:

• Basic knowledge of sensors and sensor data.
• Initial hands-on experience in Machine Learning or AI.
• Interest in industrial applications, time series data, and data-driven methodologies.
