Role Overview
The Mayo Clinic Center for Safe and Healthy Children and Adolescents (MCCSHCA) seeks a Victim Advocate dedicated to supporting children and families affected by abuse or other serious crimes. Serving as a vital member in a multidisciplinary team including law enforcement, child protection, prosecution, mental health, and medical professionals, this role focuses on reducing trauma, promoting healing, and guiding families through complex investigations and legal processes. The advocate assesses individual and cultural needs, ensures these are addressed by the team, offers crisis intervention and emotional support, manages safety planning, and oversees case management from investigation through resolution. Accompanying children and families during legal proceedings, when needed, is also part of the responsibilities. Accurate documentation aligned with state and federal guidelines is maintained throughout.
Additionally, after completing orientation, training, and approximately six months in the position, the advocate may assist as a backup handler for MCCSHCA’s therapy dog, contributing to a comforting environment for patients and families.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, criminal justice, or a related field required.
- Familiarity with laws concerning victims' rights, domestic violence, criminal sexual conduct, and similar areas.
- Experience in recruiting, training, and managing volunteers.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Spanish language skills are preferred but not mandatory.
- Must pass a criminal background check every five years.
Additional Information
- Position classified as nonexempt.
- Pay range between $27.99 and $41.98 per hour, based on education, experience, tenure, and internal pay equity.
- Eligibility for comprehensive benefits included.
- Standard full-time schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with some flexibility depending on case demands.
- No weekend or international assignments required.
- Work location in Rochester, Minnesota, with Mayo Clinic's various campuses across the US and internationally.
