Unassigned Caretaker

Role overview

Wellington Catholic District School Board is hiring a permanent unassigned caretaker to support school operations across various locations in Guelph, Ontario. This position works the afternoon shift and is part of a team committed to equity, inclusion, and high-quality education. Schedule and pay

This is a 100% permanent role with a schedule of 8 hours per day and 40 hours per week. The regular shift runs Monday to Friday from 3:30 pm to 11:30 pm. The starting pay is $26.82 per hour, plus a shift premium of $0.85 per hour. The start date is to be determined.

Key duties

Reporting to the Caretaker-in-Charge, the caretaker will handle daily cleaning throughout the school building and carry out additional site upkeep tasks as needed. The work includes ice and snow removal, minor repairs, grounds maintenance, garbage handling, securing the building, and documenting maintenance concerns. The role also involves supporting community-use groups when required and responding to alarm and emergency situations during the shift.

Qualifications and experience

Applicants should have a Grade 12 secondary school diploma or an equivalent credential, along with a solid understanding of health and safety regulations and the W.H.I.M.S. program. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are important, as is familiarity with computer applications used in the role. Candidates must be able to operate the school’s computerized HVAC system and safely use small tools and equipment with good eye-hand coordination. Previous related experience is needed, and hands-on caretaking experience in an institutional setting is considered an asset.

External candidates who are successful will need to submit an original Criminal Record Check as a condition of employment. The check must be dated within 6 months of accepting the job and will usually need a Vulnerable Sector Screening. Only applicants selected for an interview will be contacted.
