Job Overview
The Transport Manager is responsible for overseeing the movement of domestic freight from national, regional, and temperature-controlled distribution centers (DCs) to our retail store network, as well as from suppliers to national and regional DCs. This role involves managing transport providers’ performance and expenses while ensuring vehicle safety and legal compliance. Exploring new opportunities to enhance service delivery for customers is also a key responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote and ensure safe transport practices among carrier operators.
- Coordinate daily freight movements from distribution centers to stores, including ambient and temperature-controlled goods.
- Collaborate closely with distribution centers and transport companies to facilitate smooth stock flow from dispatch to delivery.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with transport providers and relevant stakeholders to support effective collaboration.
- Serve as a liaison between distribution centers, transport providers, and stores to resolve delivery-related queries.
- Monitor, evaluate, and manage the KPIs of freight service providers.
- Analyze delivery-on-time performance data, freight rates, and in-transit damage to identify improvement opportunities.
- Research and evaluate new technologies and opportunities with current and potential transport providers.
- Budget, report, and manage expenses associated with domestic logistics.
- Track and report any realized cost savings in domestic logistics operations.
- Conduct analyses to identify and recommend improvements in delivery frequency, aiming to enhance service and reduce costs without compromising replenishment or shelf availability.
Qualifications and Skills
- Proactive mindset with the ability to quickly adapt to the evolving requirements of a growing retail business.
- Strong understanding of supply chain and logistics operations.
- At least 2 years of relevant experience in a similar role within a retail environment.
- Knowledge of NHVR (National Heavy Vehicle Regulator) regulations and Chain of Responsibility legislation.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.
- Analytical thinker with strong problem-solving abilities capable of engaging stakeholders to resolve issues and influence outcomes.
- Skillful at building positive working relationships across all organizational levels.
- Strong stakeholder management orientation.
- Energetic, driven, and passionate attitude toward work.
