Job description

Position Overview

This role is designed for a Trainee Equipment Maintenance Technician who will receive training to support the setup, installation, upkeep, and operational assistance of automated machinery, aimed at achieving peak performance and meeting production objectives. Collaborating closely with shift technicians and cross-functional teams, the incumbent will address manufacturing challenges and devise safe, effective solutions to enhance throughput efficiency, cycle times, yield, and product quality.

Core Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair faults in electro-mechanical systems.
  • Plan and carry out preventive maintenance activities.
  • Assist in relocating, installing, configuring, and refurbishing equipment.
  • Maintain detailed and current maintenance logs and documentation.
  • Track and log significant downtime events and resolutions in relevant databases.
  • Coordinate with various departments to facilitate equipment repairs.
  • Proactively work towards meeting performance targets including production uptime, yield, quality control, and process stability.
  • Report potential issues impacting capacity or quality to the Team Leader and relevant teams.
  • Participate in shift handoffs and provide comprehensive status updates.
  • Contribute to spare parts failure management.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives alongside Process Engineers.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • In-depth understanding of installation, operation, and maintenance of manufacturing equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Hands-on technical aptitude to resolve complex issues.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team setting.
  • Dedication to achieving manufacturing excellence.
  • Highly adaptable to shift changes, training demands, maintenance schedules, and project tasks.
  • Self-motivated with a proactive approach to work.
  • Resilient and capable of performing well under pressure.

Experience and Educational Qualifications

  • Between 1 to 2 years working as a technician, technical operator, or tradesperson in a high-pressure environment.
  • Certification, diploma, or senior trade qualification in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent field.
  • Familiarity with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), motor drives, pneumatic and hydraulic systems is advantageous.

Additional Information

This opportunity is based in Galway, Ireland, and requires onsite presence. The role reports directly to the Team Leader, who will provide oversight and approve key decisions.
