Job Summary
The Track Labourer is responsible for the safe and effective inspection, repair, and upkeep of railroad track infrastructure to guarantee safe, reliable service for clients. This physically demanding role requires gaining proficiency in various track maintenance tasks during a designated training and probation period.
Primary Duties
- Assist in inspecting, loading/unloading, distributing, and installing rails, rail components, cross ties, switch ties, ballast, and other track materials
- Support grinding, fabrication, inspection, and repair of rail and track components
- Contribute to the inspection, maintenance, repair, and construction of track turnouts, switch stands, and track infrastructure
- Participate in surface structure inspection, gauge checking, tie removal and replacement, roadbed rehabilitation, construction, and demolition
- Inspect and maintain road crossings, bridges, culverts, tunnels, snow fences, signage, and equipment
- Clear vegetation with tools and manual effort
- Remove ice, snow, dirt, and debris from switches and track infrastructure
- Submit accurate and timely reports as required
- Interpret safety rules, operational and maintenance guidelines, and federal and state regulations accurately
- Communicate clearly and professionally
- Understand and enforce track authority comprehensively
- Meet established performance standards and deadlines
- Adhere to safety protocols and regulatory policies
- Respond swiftly to accidents or emergencies
- Use precision gauges, measuring tools, schematics, and manuals consistently
- Operate heavy equipment such as backhoes and track hoes
- Perform additional tasks as assigned
Qualifications
- Valid driver's license required
- Successful completion of required training courses including Track Ground School, FRA General Code of Operating Rules test, Roadway Worker Protection test, Fall Protection test, Maintenance of Way safety test, and MSHA/OSHA training if applicable

Candidates must be 18 years or older and possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
