Job description
Position Overview
The Systems Trainer role is a one-year term position providing centralized training and support services within Information Services. Reporting to management, the trainer develops, documents, and updates internal training programs, utilizing hands-on experience with software and hardware, along with vendor resources.
Key Responsibilities
- Create, document, and revise district-wide training material addressing hardware and software applications used across various departments.
- Organize, schedule, and conduct training sessions individually or in groups for union and non-union staff at all organizational levels, accommodating varying technical competency.
- Develop training guides and procedural manuals to aid classroom and on-site learning, obtaining knowledge through product operation and manual review.
- Provide telephone and on-site support, demonstrating and explaining software applications, assisting with customization and troubleshooting to meet local requirements.
- Offer advice regarding software and systems issues and support evolving systems practices through training and documentation.
- Remain current with departmental and office procedural developments affecting computer applications, recommending necessary program or procedure modifications.
- Collaborate with Information Services personnel in software testing, system updates, and support of assigned projects.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills
- Understanding of computer system applications within administrative departments, including office environments, potential for change, and practical considerations.
- Capability to effectively communicate technical computer application knowledge to users with limited or no prior experience in office automation.
- Skill in creating instructional materials tailored for trainees.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills essential for role fulfillment.
- Adult education experience or certification is advantageous.
Qualifications and Experience
- Completion of a two-year Diploma in Computer Information Systems from an accredited community college or technical institute.
- Minimum two years of practical experience in roles involving the implementation and training of computer systems in office settings.
- Alternatively, a combination of relevant education and extensive directly related experience may be considered.
Compensation and Benefits
This is a unionized position paying an hourly rate of $35.02 and offering a comprehensive benefits package which includes pension, health coverage, vacation, and sick leave benefits.
