Supply Management Specialist

About the Role

Join the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) as a Supply Management Specialist based in Kansas City, MO. This role covers a wide range of supply management activities, starting from initial planning and requirements determination through procurement, cataloging, storage, distribution, and final consumption or disposal of supplies and equipment. You will work to ensure the effective management of supply chains supporting both State and Federal personnel.

Main Responsibilities

• Procure supplies, equipment, or services for State and Federal employees.
• Prepare documentation related to lost, stolen, or disposed property, including receipts for property management.
• Conduct pre-acquisition planning and review acquisition packages to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Monitor warehouse operations for performance trends and suggest improvements in stock management and material control procedures.
• Identify opportunities for process enhancements to increase efficiency and support mission goals.
• Develop departmental policies and procedures aligned with federal guidelines to manage supplies and materials effectively.

Qualifications and Eligibility

Applicants must meet specialized experience and/or educational requirements by the closing date.

• Specialized Experience (GS-07 Level): One year of experience equivalent to GS-05 involving presentations to management or community groups, data verification and correction in databases, assisting with inventory tracking and reconciliation, ensuring accurate recording of property purchases and receipts, and transferring/importing/exporting data for reporting.
• Education: One full year of graduate-level study in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Operations, or related fields qualifies alternatively.
• Superior Academic Achievement: Bachelor's degree with either upper third class standing, membership in a national scholastic honor society (excluding freshman societies), or GPA qualifications of 3.0+ overall or 3.5+ in major field courses based on official transcripts.
• Combinations: Applicants may qualify via combinations of education and experience totaling 100% for the GS-07 level.
• Transcripts: Required when qualifying based on education, combination of education and experience, or superior academic achievement.
• Volunteering and unpaid experience in recognized programs are credited toward qualification.

Additional Information

• Potential for temporary duty assignments supporting emergency programs as part of APHIS' emergency response role.

Salary and Dates

Annual salary range: $51,283 to $66,670. Position start date is July 28, 2026, with application closing on August 3, 2026.
