Role overview
The Supervisor - Operations (ILHBS) is responsible for ensuring that hold baggage screening is carried out safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with security regulations. The role involves operating screening systems, identifying prohibited or dangerous items, recording findings, coordinating with security and airline teams, and maintaining high standards of airport security and operational discipline.
Core duties
- Participate in all required regulatory training and successfully complete the applicable training attempts.
- Use X-BIS systems to inspect baggage images and identify dangerous goods, prohibited items, weapons, ammunition, and other security risks in line with AVSEC circulars, orders, guidelines, and SOPs.
- Carry out physical inspections and ETD testing for bags that are flagged during X-ray screening.
- Maintain strong TIP scores that reflect effective image interpretation and screening accuracy.
- Comply with BCAS and DGCA instructions throughout baggage screening and handling activities.
- Accurately record operational activities and security findings to support audits and inspections.
- Complete pre-operational checks for X-BIS, ETD, CT-EDS, and related security equipment to confirm readiness and functionality.
- Report equipment faults, downtime, and other operational issues, and support maintenance of the relevant registers.
- Coordinate with CISF personnel and airline staff during physical checks or when resolving suspicious baggage cases.
- Keep supervisors informed in a timely manner about operational updates or issues requiring escalation.
- Complete baggage screening and inspection tasks within required timelines so that airport operations are not delayed.
- Balance speed and thoroughness to protect security while maintaining operational flow.
- Maintain professionalism, discipline, and a positive team environment at all times.
- Follow company policies and uphold expected standards of workplace conduct and decorum.
Stakeholders
Internal stakeholders: CSO, Lead AVSEC Audit & Compliance, Pass Section, Lead - ILHBS, Duty Manager - ILHBS, Senior Screener, Terminal Operations, IT, HR, Compliance and Regulatory teams, and other airport departments such as Operations and Customer Service.
External stakeholders: TSA, aircraft operators, airport authorities, passengers, ASG, BCAS, local police, service providers, law enforcement agencies, regulatory bodies, and industry associations.
Qualification and experience
- A high school diploma or an equivalent qualification is required.
- A bachelor’s degree or similar qualification is also stated as acceptable.
- TSA certification is mandatory.
- Preferred certifications include the BCAS AVSEC basic course, BCAS standalone or inline screener certification, and DGCA-approved DGR CAT 12 certification.
- Candidates with NCC “C” or “B” certificates will be preferred.
- Freshers may apply, and candidates with up to 1-2 years of experience in security screening or a related role, preferably in an airport environment, are also suitable.
- Prior exposure to screening equipment and security procedures is expected or preferred.
Physical and personal requirements
- Vision must meet the stated standard: at least 20/60 in both eyes without glasses or lenses, or 20/20 in one eye and 20/30 in the other when using glasses or contact lenses.
- Adequate colour perception is required.
- Hearing loss in each ear should be under 30 dB when measured through audiography for frequencies below 2000 Hz.
- The candidate must be able to communicate clearly and effectively by speech.
- There should be no pronounced speech or movement-related impairment that would affect crisis communication.
- The person should have a functional sense of smell.
- High standards of civility, appearance, sobriety, courtesy, and deportment are expected.
