Job description

About AMD and the Role

AMD is a leading technology company driving advancements in supercomputing, high-performance computing, cloud infrastructure, and AI. At AMD, the goal is to create innovative technology that positively impacts the world, from healthcare to entertainment and productivity. The company is currently seeking an experienced Design Verification Engineer specializing in PCIe controller subsystems to work on next-generation power optimization technologies for AMD's future system-on-chips (SoCs) used in AI training and inference, gaming consoles, servers, personal computers, graphics cards, and virtual reality devices. This role is primarily based in Cork, with a secondary option in Dublin.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute comprehensive PCIe controller verification activities, guiding test plans through to verification signoff.
  • Partner with architects and designers to gain a deep understanding of IP functionalities and features.
  • Develop, implement, and review detailed test plans and strategies.
  • Perform verification of high-speed digital designs employing both coverage-driven random testing and directed testing, alongside formal verification methods.
  • Take ownership of one or more verification flows, managing from initial planning to coverage convergence and final signoff for subsystem IP interoperability.
  • Create and maintain testbench components and develop test and sequence libraries using object-oriented programming techniques consistent with UVM methodology.
  • Conduct and actively participate in code review sessions.
  • Provide technical leadership by managing block ownership responsibilities from conception to verification signoff.

Preferred Experience and Skills

  • Expertise with low-power verification methodologies and Unified Power Format (UPF) workflows is highly advantageous.
  • Strong knowledge of PC system architectures, including PCI Express, SATA, USB, Ethernet, HyperTransport, and DDR; familiar with standard bus and interface protocols such as AXI, AHB, AMBA, OCP, and PIPE.
  • Experience leveraging AI techniques to enhance verification flows.
  • Familiarity with simulation profiling, accelerating verification processes, and use of high-level synthesis (HLS) tools.
  • Self-motivated and able to independently drive tasks efficiently to meet time-critical deadlines.
  • Excellent communication, time management, and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Perl, Ruby, Makefiles, and shell scripting.
  • Proven track record verifying commercially successful IP cores, subsystems, and SoCs.
  • Capacity to mentor and guide engineers at various levels, fostering a positive team culture.
  • Expert in SystemVerilog and the Universal Verification Methodology (UVM).
  • Skilled in object-oriented programming, scripting languages like Ruby, Python, and Perl, and low-level programming languages.

Academic Qualifications

The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics, Computer, or Electrical Engineering along with a minimum of 7 years' experience in design verification.

Additional Information

This is a full-time onsite position located primarily in Cork, Ireland, with a secondary location option in Dublin. Candidates should demonstrate strong attention to detail, leadership ability, and flexibility to collaborate with colleagues across multiple time zones. AMD is committed to equal opportunity employment and encourages applications from diverse candidates. The company may employ artificial intelligence tools during candidate screening and selection processes.
