Staff Grade Physiotherapist - Permanent Position

Position Overview

The role is for a Staff Grade Physiotherapist on a permanent contract within the Physiotherapy department at Beaumont Hospital, Dublin 9. Reporting to the Physiotherapy Manager, this full-time position involves 35 hours of work per week. Salary is aligned with government pay policy, ranging from 36,296 to 52,970 depending on experience.

Role Summary

Physiotherapists adopt a holistic approach to health, considering both lifestyle and medical conditions. The role involves assisting individuals affected by injury, illness, or disability through movement therapies, exercise, manual intervention, education, and guidance. The purpose is to promote health maintenance, pain management, disease prevention, and recovery, supporting patients to maintain independence and continue working when possible. Patient engagement, education, and empowerment are key components.

Primary Responsibilities

• Manage a clinical caseload suitable for the post.
• Assess patients and create individualized, patient-focused treatment plans based on best practices.
• Collaborate with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams to set goals and facilitate treatment.
• Communicate effectively and support patients, families, and carers with instructions and guidance.
• Maintain detailed patient records following professional and departmental standards.
• Deliver services in various settings including clinics and patient homes as per local policies.
• Participate in case reviews, conferences, and ward rounds when necessary.
• Ensure high-quality standards and engage in quality assurance initiatives.
• Seek advice and guidance as appropriate from relevant personnel.
• Adhere to professional ethics, confidentiality, and legislation.
• Work within the scope of physiotherapy practice set by CORU and local guidelines.
• Attend work as scheduled by the Board, including rotations between Beaumont Hospital and St. Josephs Hospital.
• Perform duties under designated supervision within hospital and external locations as required.
• Comply with departmental policies such as annual leave, study leave, and uniform regulations.

Education and Training

• Engage in mandatory training programs.
• Continuously update physiotherapy knowledge through professional development activities such as reflective practice, research, clinical audits, and self-directed learning.
• Participate in performance reviews and personal development planning.
• Contribute to the education and supervision of student therapists and staff as experience permits, including attending practice educator courses.

Health and Safety

• Follow agreed policies and safe professional practices adhering to legislation and regulations.
• Work safely ensuring the wellbeing of self and others.
• Identify and manage risks, reporting adverse incidents or equipment issues promptly.
• Comply with Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) standards and related HSE protocols.
• Support sustainable initiatives to foster a low-carbon and efficient healthcare environment.

Administrative Duties

• Contribute to physiotherapy service improvement and development in consultation with senior management.
• Collect and analyze data, participate in audits as requested.
• Represent the department in relevant meetings and conferences.
• Promote efficient use of IT within physiotherapy services.
• Encourage a workplace culture of diversity and respect.
• Keep informed about organizational developments within Irish health services.

Qualifications and Selection Criteria

• Applicants must be registered or eligible for registration on the Physiotherapists Register maintained by CORU.
• Possess the necessary knowledge, skills, suitability, and professional competence for the role.
• Maintain annual CORU registration and submit required certificates to HSE.
• Be fully capable and in good health to perform duties reliably.
• Exhibit good character and demonstrate ongoing clinical or academic achievements in the specialty.
• Willingness and ability to participate in on-call respiratory and orthopaedic services as required, with relevant undergraduate training.
• Section 91 candidates, who qualified before 30 September 2018, must hold a CORU-approved qualification to apply.
