About the Role and Company
IAG, the largest general insurance group in Australia and New Zealand, is dedicated to making the world safer by supporting everyday Australians and New Zealanders through accessible insurance. In this full-time permanent position based in Wellington (Te Whanganui-a-Tara), you will apply your technical expertise to assist customers during complex property claims and provide frontline assistance during major weather or natural disaster events. This role offers an opportunity to work closely with experienced assessors, claims professionals, and external specialists to resolve complicated claims and improve event response strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Handle complex property claims from initial evaluation to final settlement, including assessing coverage, scope of damage, repairing review, and communicating with stakeholders.
- Offer technical mentorship and guidance to property assessors to aid in resolving difficult claims and enhance team competency.
- Participate actively in onsite response teams during significant claim-triggering events to support customers amidst disruptions.
- Collaborate with consultants, contractors, and internal experts to expedite claims, address issues, and ensure fair customer outcomes.
- Identify potential risks, improvements, and opportunities to elevate claim quality, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
- Provide coaching, technical advice, and training to foster professional growth within assessing and claims teams.
- Maintain rigorous quality, governance, and compliance standards throughout claims management and event responses.
Required Skills and Experience
- Proven experience managing technical property claims within insurance, assessment, or claims management roles.
- Comprehensive knowledge of building repairs, damage evaluation, and estimation of reinstatement costs.
- Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and make well-informed decisions under pressure.
- Demonstrated skill in delivering empathetic and professional customer support during challenging times.
- Effective communication skills capable of clearly explaining technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Strong relationship-building skills working with internal teams, suppliers, contractors, and industry specialists.
- A collaborative spirit coupled with enthusiasm for knowledge sharing, mentoring colleagues, and continuous process improvement.
