Role Overview

As an early-career Software Engineer at Pax, you will contribute to shaping the future of global trade compliance technology by building innovative features leveraging artificial intelligence, including large language models (LLMs).

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the complete development cycle for features, including designing APIs, backend services, frontend interfaces, and integrating all components.
• Create user-friendly tools that simplify navigating complex regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate directly with customers to identify their needs and deliver rapid, effective solutions.
• Incorporate advanced AI technologies such as LLMs to address practical business challenges.

Initial 90-Day Milestones

• Within the first week, deploy a tangible feature into production.
• In the first month, collaborate closely with a founder to deliver a full project powered by LLM technology.
• By the second month, independently manage the development of an entire vertical, from specification to launch.
• By the third month, engage directly with enterprise clients to gather feedback and refine products in real-time.

About You

• You have a proven track record of building and releasing software projects you are proud of.
• You possess strong backend development skills and a keen eye for polished frontend user experience.
• You exhibit curiosity about working with LLMs and a willingness to learn quickly.
• You understand when to prioritize speed versus refinement in development cycles.
• Comfortable navigating the ambiguity of an early-stage startup environment.
• Proactive and independent, yet collaborative and communicative when seeking guidance.
• Driven to own meaningful outcomes beyond just writing code.
• Experience with frameworks such as React, Next.js, FastAPI, SQLModel, and Postgres, through projects, internships, or work.

Work Environment and Location

Pax operates from its San Francisco office, offering a focused and dynamic workplace culture; onsite presence is mandatory.

Compensation and Employment Details

This is a part-time position with an annual salary range of $130,000 to $170,000.
