About the Role

This position represents a backend software engineering opportunity based in Germany, working remotely within Europe. The role entails designing and maintaining robust backend systems that support a modern compensation platform used by organizations and their employees across the continent. It requires blending backend technical skill with product-oriented thinking and ownership in a dynamic Software as a Service (SaaS) environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and maintain scalable and reliable backend services for a compensation platform serving businesses and employees.
• Architect and implement APIs, database schemas, and system improvements to boost efficiency, scalability, and upkeep.
• Deliver production-ready code with strong emphasis on testing, monitoring, observability, and fault tolerance.
• Manage feature development end-to-end, from initial technical discovery through to implementation, deployment, and ongoing enhancement.
• Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams including product managers, designers, and engineers to address customer challenges effectively.
• Bring technical insights into product discussions, question assumptions, and influence product direction.
• Optimize system performance by improving error handling, lowering latency, and ensuring data consistency.
• Uphold coding standards through reviews, collaborative knowledge sharing, and cultivating a strong engineering culture.
• Adopt modern development methodologies including incremental pull requests, continuous integration/delivery, and automatic deployment pipelines.
• Develop systems compliant with multifaceted regulatory, compliance, and market-specific business demands.
• Integrate AI-assisted development techniques to boost engineering productivity and workflow efficiency.

Candidate Profile

• Proven experience in backend engineering with a demonstrated history of building and maintaining production-grade systems.
• Expertise in creating scalable applications emphasizing reliability, maintainability, and high performance.
• Comprehensive knowledge of software testing strategies, observability practices, system monitoring, and live operations.
• Familiarity with continuous integration and continuous deployment practices, skilled in delivering incremental software updates collaboratively.
• A product-focused mindset with an ability to grasp and prioritize user-centric outcomes beyond mere technical implementation.
• Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration across engineering, product, and design teams.
• Hands-on experience with relational databases, specifically PostgreSQL or similar technologies.
• Comfortable working with cloud platforms and modern infrastructure tools such as AWS, Kubernetes, GitHub, GitHub Actions, ConfigCat, and Datadog.
• Knowledge or experience using Elixir and the Phoenix web framework is highly desirable.
• Background or interest in B2B SaaS, financial technology, payments, or regulated sectors offers a strong advantage.
• Awareness of AI-assisted coding tools and prompt-driven workflows is beneficial.
• Capacity to make balanced decisions between delivery speed and code quality within fast-paced settings.
