Role overview
This full-time, permanent Senior Estimator opportunity is with a well-established construction contractor working across Ireland. The position is aimed at an experienced commercial construction professional who can help secure and deliver major projects through accurate tendering and strong commercial judgement.
The role is based in Galway, Limerick, or Dublin and offers a salary in the range of €80,000 to €110,000 depending on experience.
Key responsibilities
- Take ownership of preparing and submitting detailed cost plans and tender bids for a broad mix of construction work, including commercial, residential, healthcare, education, and mixed-use schemes.
- Examine drawings, specifications, schedules, and contract papers to build precise pricing and cost estimates.
- Run the full tender cycle from the first enquiry through to final submission.
- Spot project risks, potential value engineering options, and other commercial factors that influence bid strategy.
- Gather, compare, and negotiate pricing from subcontractors, suppliers, and specialist trades.
- Work closely with clients, consultants, design teams, subcontractors, and internal colleagues to resolve queries and confirm project requirements.
- Compile and deliver tender reviews, cost analysis, and recommendations for senior leaders.
- Keep cost records, benchmarking data, and historical pricing information up to date and well organised.
- Guide and support junior estimators while helping strengthen the estimating team’s capability.
- Join pre-tender, post-tender, and client meetings when needed.
Candidate profile
- A degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a closely related construction field.
- Roughly 5 to 10 years of estimating experience, preferably gained with a main contractor.
- Solid understanding of the Irish construction environment, including supply chains, subcontractor relationships, and procurement practices.
- Demonstrated success in producing winning tenders across multiple sectors.
- Strong grasp of construction methods, building materials, specifications, and Irish building regulations.
- High commercial awareness with excellent attention to detail.
- Competence using industry estimating tools and Microsoft Office software.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management abilities.
- Capacity to handle several tenders at once and perform well under pressure and tight deadlines.
