School Counselor

Position Overview

The School Counselor at Chapel Hill High School integrates leadership, advocacy, and collaboration to foster student achievement. This role delivers comprehensive counseling programs addressing students' academic progress, career paths, and social/emotional well-being in alignment with North Carolina's education standards. Serving a 10-month term, the counselor works closely with educational stakeholders to support student development and readiness for global competitiveness.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, execute, and oversee a comprehensive counseling program per American School Counselor Association guidelines.
• Create and evaluate program activities and tools to ensure effectiveness.
• Engage school personnel in program decision-making processes.
• Collaborate with school administration to formulate and maintain a detailed counseling plan tailored to NC state standards and school-specific data.
• Effectively communicate program objectives to administrators, educators, students, parents, and community members.
• Dedicate most time to direct student services such as guidance curriculum, individualized planning, and preventive/responsive services, allocating remaining time to program management and accountability.
• Consult with students, families, educators, and community resources to address student needs.
• Interpret assessment results and use data to assist with educational placements and policy improvements.
• Deliver individual and group counseling tailored to students' identified issues, maintaining appropriate referral and follow-up procedures.
• Inform school personnel and stakeholders about counseling initiatives and student data insights.
• Conduct annual audits to assess program implementation and impact.
• Uphold professional ethical standards and comply with all applicable laws and policies.
• Participate in professional organizations and continuous skill development.
• Serve on school-based committees as appropriate and perform additional tasks as assigned.
• Ensure compliance with all school district policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Possession of a valid North Carolina Educator License in School Counseling.
• Master's degree in school counseling or related field with school counseling licensure.
• Completion of a school counseling internship.

Physical and Professional Requirements

• Capability to perform essential job functions safely and efficiently according to ADA, FMLA, and relevant regulations.
• Reliable and punctual attendance consistent with required standards.
