Research Engineer - Logistics and Supply Chain Optimization

About the Role

The National University of Singapore's Logistics Institute – Asia Pacific (TLI-AP) invites applications for the position of Research Engineer focused on logistics and supply chain operational challenges. This role is based at the NUS Kent Ridge Campus and involves leveraging advanced modeling, simulation, and data science techniques to enhance efficiency in transportation and logistics systems.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deploy optimization models specially designed for logistics and transportation scenarios.
• Create and improve algorithmic solutions such as heuristics and metaheuristics (e.g., Tabu Search, Genetic Algorithms) to address complex, large-scale problems.
• Utilize solver tools including Gurobi, CPLEX, and Google OR-Tools to support optimization tasks.
• Implement simulation-driven data science applications utilizing software like AnyLogic, AnyLogistix, FlexSim, Arena, and Demo 3D.
• Conduct analysis of both historical and live data sets to generate actionable insights.
• Employ data cleansing and statistical methodologies to interpret complex datasets effectively.
• Design detailed visual representations of data using Microsoft Power BI and Tableau to facilitate understanding and decision-making.

Qualifications & Requirements

• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
• Experience of between one and two years in logistics or supply chain management is advantageous but not mandatory; candidates with requisite technical skills without prior experience are encouraged to apply.
• Expertise in Python or comparable programming languages, along with SQL proficiency.
• Hands-on experience with popular optimization solvers such as Gurobi, CPLEX, and OR-Tools.
• Knowledge of simulation platforms including AnyLogic, FlexSim, Arena, AIMMS, or Demo 3D.
• Competency in data visualization tools, specifically MS Power BI and Tableau.
• Strong proficiency in the MS Office suite.
