Research Focus

Dr. Kozak’s team conducts studies on emerging viruses to elucidate viral disease mechanisms, develop novel diagnostic tools, and assess interventions. Their efforts also extend to genomic epidemiology focusing on respiratory pathogens to enhance understanding of transmission dynamics and improve surveillance systems.

Role Overview

The Research Coordinator will contribute to multiple ongoing virology research projects. Responsibilities involve conducting wet-lab experiments such as cell culture and animal studies within BSL2 and potentially BSL3 settings. The role includes reviewing patients and analyzing clinical samples, managing reagent procurement, and supporting laboratory operations. Although most lab work is scheduled from Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM, occasional flexibility in hours may be needed to accommodate clinical trial requirements.

Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant field is mandatory. Holding a CRC designation is advantageous.
• At least one year of clinical laboratory experience and two years in a research lab environment.
• Experience in preparing manuscripts and conference abstracts.
• Proficiency in molecular assays, specimen handling, and processing clinical samples is essential.
• Willingness to undergo training for animal experimentation; previous animal handling experience is beneficial.
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and time management capabilities.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with high attention to detail.
• Demonstrated competence in scientific writing and familiarity with research regulations including clinical lab protocols and biosafety standards.
• Capability to train new lab members in laboratory protocols.
• Experience in preparing Research Ethics Board (REB) and Clinical Trial Office (CTO) applications.
