Job description
Position Overview
The role involves managing and coordinating assigned projects related to construction, landscape, architectural, mechanical, electrical, or affordable housing sectors. Responsibilities include planning, designing, and developing significant projects, implementing program objectives, and executing various administrative, professional, and technical activities within the assigned functional area.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee project activities encompassing design, planning, scheduling, tracking, and comprehensive supervision of assigned projects.
- Conduct reviews of projects and monitor program outcomes, including contractor compliance with goals, scopes, budgets, and construction feasibility, recommending and applying system or process changes as necessary.
- Contribute to gathering technical data essential for planning major capital improvements involving facilities, parks, structures, and systems; perform detailed research, analyses, cost evaluations, and develop alternative design methods when applicable.
- Act as project manager for various initiatives; carry out site and construction inspections; may participate in technical advisory committees for projects handled by other departments.
- Coordinate scheduling and organization of project activities related to infrastructure and associated programs.
- Support and propose implementation of goals and policies; devise schedules and methodologies for project coordination services; enforce policies and procedures.
- Plan and review all aspects of project design; explore and assess alternative methods for meeting project goals and objectives.
- Engage with civic groups, businesses, governmental agencies, or homeowners to elucidate policies, plans, and procedures regarding assigned projects.
- Lead or participate in technical and public meetings; serve as a liaison to citizen advisory boards; coordinate with other agencies and departments as required.
- Involvement in consultant selection for various projects.
- Review project financial documents; suggest billing and payment processes.
- Coordinate and review comments on current planning matters from other departments or agencies.
- Assist in budgeting tasks including preparation, administration, recommendations, and expense monitoring.
- Prepare comprehensive reports detailing project and program statuses.
- Possibly supervise lower-level staff including oversight, evaluation, training coordination, misconduct correction, discipline, and termination actions.
Additional Functions
- Ensure program adherence to applicable laws, rules, and regulations pertinent to assigned projects and services.
- Perform related duties as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, landscape architecture, architectural design, planning, or business administration from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of four years of experience in project management, implementation, and coordination.
- At least two years in a lead or supervisory role.
- Valid New Mexico Driver’s License or ability to obtain before hire.
- Obtain City Operators Permit within six months after hire.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
- Work occurs in both office and field settings; involves traveling to multiple sites.
- Exposure to computer screens and variable weather conditions.
- May require working in confined spaces and close interaction with colleagues.
- Physical demands include prolonged walking, standing, or sitting, and light lifting or carrying.
- Operation of motorized vehicles and equipment may be required.
