Overview

The Transportation Planning and Management Division is dedicated to ensuring safe, efficient, and environmentally sustainable movement throughout New York City's streets, supporting its economic and social vitality. Within this framework, the Office of Livable Streets focuses on strategy, community engagement, policy, and design to foster streets that encourage safety, accessibility, inclusion, resilience, and active transportation modes across all boroughs. The Cycling & Micromobility Unit manages the largest network of on-street bicycle facilities nationally, aiming to boost equitable access and safety for cyclists.

Role Summary

The Program Coordinator will be instrumental in launching and managing the Secure Bike Program (SBP), which plans to implement 500 secure bike parking sites citywide over five years. This initiative supports diverse bicycle types including cargo, adaptive, and UL-certified e-bikes, enhancing ridership by providing accessible and safe parking solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct field investigations and site evaluations to determine suitable locations for SBP installations.
• Review installation plans ensuring adherence to technical and project standards.
• Maintain comprehensive and accurate databases to uphold data integrity.
• Develop data collection protocols and contribute to performance reporting.
• Manage pre-installation community notifications and execute post-installation inspections and reporting.
• Prepare maps with ArcGIS and develop outreach materials and presentations utilizing Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft PowerPoint for diverse audiences.
• Coordinate between internal divisions, sister agencies, and community stakeholders to facilitate installations and activation of SBP facilities.
• Support public education and engagement regarding program objectives and facility use, including community presentations and participation in outreach events.
• Address inquiries and manage communications related to the SBP.
• Undertake additional planning, analysis, and operational tasks as required for program success.

Candidate Profile

• Detail-focused, proactive, and able to collaborate effectively with teams.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and communication competencies.
• Comfortable performing year-round fieldwork using bicycle, pedestrian, or public transit travel.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution plus two years of full-time experience in city planning; equivalent combinations of education and experience are accepted.
• Graduate education in relevant fields like urban planning, architecture, transportation engineering may substitute for experience.

Preferred Skills

• Background in design, engineering, planning or related sectors.
• Demonstrated interest in cycling infrastructure and urban environments of New York City.
• Proficient with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, ArcGIS, CAD software, and Adobe Illustrator.

Additional Details

• Position may offer up to two remote workdays weekly under NY City’s Remote Work Pilot Program.
• City residency required within 90 days of appointment, with certain exceptions after 2 years of city employment.
• Position is open to those qualifying for the 55-a Program supporting persons with disabilities.

• Salary range: $75,777 to $111,552 annually.
• Standard schedule: 35 hours per week, 9 AM to 5 PM, location at 55 Water Street, Manhattan.
