About the Role
As the Principal Process Engineer, you will play a crucial role in providing technical guidance, process optimisation, and direction to workshop staff at our Christchurch facility. You will interpret complex technical documentation such as engine manuals, service bulletins, and airworthiness directives to support the repair and maintenance of aircraft engines, specifically focusing on the V2500 and PW1100G-JM types. A key aspect of this position includes developing compliant work instructions, designing repair tooling, and spearheading continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Offer advanced technical support for process development, ensuring regulatory and cost-effective operations.
- Oversee all repair processes for assigned engine components, both assembled and disassembled, in line with Designated Service Provider (DSP) protocols.
- Develop and implement part repair methods, prioritising compliance and safety requirements, including CHCEC CORE and EH&S standards.
- Review and approve tooling for repair activities, create new designs, and validate equivalencies for existing equipment.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives, particularly Six Sigma, PFMEA, and process certification and review processes for repair operations.
- Support advancements in process technology, including optimisation and automation projects such as Robotic Process Automation (RPA).
- Participate in the capital equipment acquisition process, from assessment through to implementation.
Requirements and Desired Profile
- Holds a New Zealand Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (NZ LAME) certification or an advanced diploma in engineering or management; a bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.
- Significant experience with data analysis, trend monitoring, and reporting.
- In-depth knowledge of lean manufacturing methodologies and prior engagement with continuous improvement practices.
- Expertise in maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) environments, particularly related to aero engines.
- Understanding of capital acquisition processes within an engineering context.
- Hands-on experience with Computer Numerical Control (CNC) systems, automation, and RPA solutions within an industrial or MRO context.
- Thorough understanding of engine teardown, inspection, repair, modification, assembly, and testing procedures.
- High degree of computer proficiency is essential.
Shifts
Applicants must be willing to work an evening shift (3:45pm–12:15am) one week per month, as scheduled for key maintenance activities. Advance notice is given wherever possible.
