Role Overview

The Performance Test Engineer will be responsible for assessing and executing performance testing tasks for banking systems. The role involves analyzing business needs and technical requirements to design appropriate performance test plans and workloads. The candidate will execute various types of performance tests such as load, stress, spike, endurance, volume, capacity, and scalability tests using LoadRunner tools in banking environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Interpret business and non-functional requirements to outline the scope and design of performance tests along with realistic workload models.
• Conduct different performance tests including load, stress, spike, endurance/soak, volume, capacity, and scalability testing.
• Create and update performance test scripts utilizing LoadRunner Professional components like VuGen, Controller, Analysis, and Performance Center/ALM.
• Simulate concurrent users and practical business scenarios to validate system performance against established service level agreements (SLAs).
• Monitor application layers including database, middleware, and infrastructure metrics during test execution phases.
• Examine critical parameters such as response time, throughput, transactions per second (TPS), concurrent users, error rates, CPU usage, memory consumption, disk input/output, and network utilization.
• Detect performance issues, perform detailed root cause investigations, and offer enhancement suggestions.
• Provide support for performance testing across banking applications including Core Banking, Payments, Lending, Digital Banking, Retail and Corporate Banking, APIs, and microservices.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as Developers, Architects, DBAs, Infrastructure, DevOps, and Business Analysts to address performance tuning and resolve issues.
• Develop and document performance testing strategies, workload models, test execution summaries, analysis reports, and maintain reusable assets for future testing.

Essential Skills and Experience

• Proficiency in LoadRunner Professional and Micro Focus LoadRunner.
• Hands-on use of VuGen, Controller, LoadRunner Analysis, Performance Center, ALM, and Enterprise Performance Engineering tools.
• Experience in conducting Load, Stress, Spike, Endurance/Soak, Volume, Capacity, and Scalability tests.
• Expertise in performance testing of web-based applications and REST/SOAP APIs.
• Strong capability in performance monitoring, troubleshooting bottlenecks, and root cause analysis.
• Understanding of application, database, middleware, and infrastructure monitoring techniques.
• Previous work experience in performance testing within the banking domain, especially in areas like Payments, Core Banking, Digital Banking, or systems handling high-volume financial transactions.
• Comprehensive knowledge of critical performance metrics such as response times, TPS, throughput, concurrent users, error rates, CPU, memory, disk I/O, and network parameters.
• Collaboration experience with Developers, Architects, DBAs, Infrastructure, and DevOps teams on performance optimization and defect mitigation.
