Role Overview

The People Business Partner at Openwork collaborates closely with leadership and employees to foster a consistent, employee-centric workplace experience. This position emphasizes employee relations, acting as a trusted advisor for both managers and staff. The role involves guiding challenging conversations, handling investigations, and maintaining seamless HR operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with leaders on routine people-management tasks including performance discussions, coaching, feedback, and employee relations cases.
  • Act as a reliable resource offering employee relations guidance and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Lead and assist in workplace investigations, documenting outcomes and advising on subsequent actions.
  • Support pivotal HR lifecycle events such as onboarding, internal transitions, leaves of absence, and offboarding processes.
  • Provide training and guidance on HR policies, procedures, and systems for managers and employees.
  • Oversee and administer leaves of absence (FMLA, ADA, state-specific), ensuring compliance and support.
  • Maintain accurate employee records in HR platforms and support payroll-related HR transactions and reporting.
  • Analyze exit feedback to identify trends aiding retention and enhancing employee experience.
  • Manage timely and thoughtful responses to inquiries received through the HR mailbox.
  • Perform regular audits to ensure adherence to HR policies, procedures, and documentation standards.
  • Contribute to the creation and refinement of HR processes, policies, and internal tools.
  • Support internal communications and deployment of HR initiatives and updates.

Candidate Requirements

  • Minimum five years' experience in Human Resources or HR Business Partner roles.
  • At least three years working within the staffing or recruiting industry sector.
  • Possession of SHRM-CP certification is mandatory.
  • Proven expertise in employee relations including coaching managers and handling sensitive matters effectively.
  • Experience leading workplace investigations and compiling thorough findings documentation.
  • Sound knowledge of HR compliance, policies, and fundamental employment law.
  • Excellent communication skills capable of building trust and influencing stakeholders at various organizational levels.
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments facing frequent priority changes.
  • Strong attention to detail, outstanding follow-through, and organizational aptitude.
  • Balance strategic vision with practical execution capabilities.
  • Must be a resident within Openwork’s operational markets (Houston, Dallas, Austin, Atlanta, Charlotte, Greenville or Raleigh) and be prepared for onsite work as required.
