About the Role
You will join the Adult Strabismus and Paediatric Ophthalmology department, contributing to various orthoptic examinations and paediatric eye care sessions. Your duties include assessing visual acuity in children, evaluating sensory and motor function of eye alignment disorders (squints), diagnosing amblyopia, providing patient counselling, and delivering orthoptic therapies. There are additional chances to engage in teaching activities and research initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct orthoptic assessments, prepare detailed reports including diagnosis and recommended management plans for paediatric, general, and private ophthalmologists.
- Perform binocular vision assessments and other specialized binocular testing.
- Evaluate and treat patients in specialized orthoptic clinics such as early intervention for children with low vision, neuro-rehabilitation, amblyopia, and fusion clinics.
- Prescribe optical aids including Fresnel prisms as part of treatment plans.
- Participate actively in educational programs and research projects.
- Be open to deployment at other hospitals or clinics to broaden professional expertise.
Qualifications and Skills
- Holds a Bachelor's degree in Applied Sciences with a specialization in Orthoptics.
- Proficient in both spoken and written English communication.
- Effective communication skills, comfortable engaging with patients of various ages.
- Welcomes applicants at entry level, with teamwork and interpersonal skills highly valued.
- Willingness to rotate through other clinics as needed.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development through continuous training.
