Team Description
The Tactical Recon & Strike team at Anduril focuses on developing small aerial drones across categories (Group 1-3) along with all supporting equipment for testing, deployment, and operation. They shepherd products such as Ghost, Anvil, Bolt, and Altius from conceptual stages to operational readiness. The team collaborates closely with specialists to tackle challenging problems faced by clients, employing expertise from software engineering, hardware engineering, robotics, and front-end mobile development, building robust robotics platforms with real-time tasking and interface capabilities.
Role Summary
The New Product Introduction Engineer position is based at Anduril's headquarters in Costa Mesa, California. This role entails leading efforts in initial builds of new vehicle products from receipt of first parts through successful qualification, field trials, and development of scalable production processes. Partnering with design and production teams, this engineer ensures seamless transitions from concept to production-ready vehicles, influencing long-term strategic decisions based on early build outcomes.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead and take ownership of first vehicle builds, including developing test and flight hardware, and overseeing technicians if applicable.
- Manage early stage inventory management and low-volume supply chain activities.
- Ensure resolution of product issues identified during development testing and incorporate improvements before production handoff.
- Plan low-rate production facility requirements.
- Collaborate with design engineers to troubleshoot build and test challenges to refine the product prior to production transfer.
- Provide detailed Design for Excellence (DFX) feedback aimed at shortening build cycles and improving product quality.
- Coordinate with production teams to deliver a fully mature product ready for mass manufacturing.
Required Qualifications
- Over five years of professional mechanical design experience.
- Participation in immersive technical projects in professional or collegiate environments.
- Demonstrated leadership in project or technical roles within professional or academic contexts.
- Proficiency in CAD software (any platform) with the ability to create engineering drawings adhering to industry standards.
- Skill in summarizing technical information to influence and define future requirements.
- Knowledge of manufacturing and assembly techniques such as machining, sheet metal work, composites, 3D printing, injection molding, die-casting, PCB assembly, and wiring.
- Hands-on prototyping experience including machining, use of shop tools, welding, and soldering.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using SolidWorks or NX and product lifecycle management (PLM) systems.
- Strong understanding and application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Advanced design capabilities for CNC machining, composites, sheet metal, injection molding, and PCBA integration.
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills.
- Familiarity with flight hardware qualification processes and designing for rugged environments.
- Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA).
- Exposure to electro-mechanical components and electrical design principles.
- Participation or experience with automotive or aerospace engineering competitions such as Formula SAE, Baja SAE, or Design Build Fly.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance.
Compensation and Benefits
The estimated salary range for this full-time position is between $129,000 and $171,000 annually, dependent on factors such as experience, education, and key skills. Most full-time employees receive competitive equity grants as part of total compensation.
