About the Role
Join Powerco's Network Control Centre team in New Plymouth as a Network Controller, a vital position managing the real-time operation of the electricity distribution network. You'll ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient supply of electricity to homes, businesses, and essential services on a 24/7 shift schedule. This dynamic role involves coordinating planned outages, responding swiftly to faults and emergencies, and supporting restoration efforts during major events and storms. Using advanced distribution management and outage management systems, you will play a key role in protecting network assets and maintaining service reliability.
Responsibilities
- Operate Powerco's electricity network in real time to ensure continuous, safe, and reliable power delivery.
- Manage planned outages and respond to network faults and emergency events.
- Support restoration processes during storms and major incidents.
- Collaborate with field teams and coordinate operational communications.
- Apply critical decision-making under pressure to impact customer supply positively and maintain system safety.
- Utilise industry-leading ADMS, OMS, and SCADA technologies to enhance network operations.
- Maintain strict compliance with safety standards and continuous improvement practices.
Requirements
- Electrical Registration at Level 4 or above, or tertiary qualifications in electrical engineering.
- Experience in electricity distribution network operations is strongly preferred.
- Strong technical and analytical abilities to assess complex network conditions and make sound decisions.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of remaining calm and decisive during high-pressure scenarios.
- Proficient with technology and adept at rapidly mastering various operational systems.
- Commitment to safety, teamwork, and ongoing personal and professional growth.
- Desirable knowledge includes high-voltage switching procedures, electricity network policies, protection systems, and risk management principles.
- Experience in managing or supporting network restoration post faults or during adverse weather events is advantageous.
