Position Overview
The Mechanical Fabricator is essential to creating and assembling a diverse range of custom projects, including structural fabrications, fascia, show decks, and mechanically operated stage machinery. This role requires expertise in both high-quality welding and mechanical assembly, supporting static structures as well as complex moving systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Fabricate structural and architectural elements using MIG, TIG, and MMA welding techniques to exact specifications.
- Work with materials such as mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminium.
- Build bespoke metal frames, fascia components, deck platforms, and mounting assemblies customized for projects.
- Operate cutting, rolling, and bending machinery to shape components as required.
- Follow welding protocols and quality standards to ensure superior finishes and precise dimensions.
- Assemble mechanical systems including gearboxes, motors, pulleys, linear rails, bearings, and other stage machinery parts.
- Fit and align moving components to guarantee smooth and safe operation.
- Conduct functional tests and basic troubleshooting on mechanical assemblies.
- Interpret mechanical schematics, exploded views, and layout drawings to complete fabrication and assembly tasks.
- Maintain a clean and safe workspace adhering to health and safety guidelines.
- Collaborate effectively with design, engineering, and installation teams to address and solve fabrication challenges.
- Perform in-process quality inspections, ensuring all outputs meet project and safety standards.
- Manage materials responsibly, including inventory tracking and minimizing waste according to company policies.
- Engage in continuous improvement efforts to optimize fabrication, assembly, and workflow processes.
Essential Requirements
- Demonstrable experience in bespoke welding and fabrication, supported by relevant welding certifications.
- Strong mechanical skills with practical experience in machine assembly.
- Ability to accurately read and interpret engineering and fabrication drawings.
- Competence in safely operating fabrication tools and machinery such as saws, grinders, drills, and press brakes.
- Proficiency using hand tools and precision measuring instruments for mechanical fitting.
- Effective time management skills to meet production deadlines consistently.
