Mechanical Design Engineer - Prototype Development in New Programs Engineering

Overview

The New Programs Engineering team plays a critical role at the forefront of vehicle design and development, focusing on creating prototypes for Tesla's upcoming generations of vehicles. This multifaceted team works closely with Design, Vehicle Engineering, and Autopilot departments to accelerate Tesla's product development by building innovative prototypes.

Responsibilities

• Take full ownership throughout the lifecycle of entire systems to create low-volume prototype vehicles.
• Collaborate with engineering teams, designers, fabricators, machinists, and technicians to realize prototype goals.
• Define project constraints independently to address complex challenges arising from initial ambiguous requirements.
• Conduct concept development, mechanical design, and analysis using 3DX software; manage projects; produce documentation; and actively participate in assembly tasks.
• Rapidly acquire knowledge of complex new systems and lead novel prototype implementations that support design and engineering validation.

Qualifications

• Possess a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• Have over 2 years of experience in product development environments.
• Demonstrate extensive knowledge of automotive prototyping techniques.
• Experienced in designing and assembling sophisticated electromechanical systems.
• Skilled in multiphysics simulation methods.
• Proficient with advanced CAD capabilities, including surface design and parametric optimization.
• Detail-oriented with strong documentation skills.

Compensation and Benefits
