About the opportunity

RAAFA is hiring a dependable and experienced Maintenance Officer for Karri & Tuart Lodge, its fully accredited 110-bed residential aged care facility in Merriwa, within the Northern Borders Region. This part-time position runs on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 7:00am to 3:00pm.

What you will do

You will be responsible for the day-to-day upkeep of the lodge, preventative maintenance activities, grounds maintenance, contractor coordination, and timely response to maintenance issues. Working closely with the Facility Manager and support teams, you will help ensure the site continues to run smoothly and safely with minimal disruption to residents and staff.

This is a visible role where your work directly contributes to the comfort, presentation, and quality of life of the people living and working at the facility.

Key duties

  • Oversee maintenance needs and preventative maintenance schedules across Karri & Tuart Lodge.
  • Respond to maintenance requests efficiently and keep works progressing in a timely way.
  • Arrange and supervise external contractors while keeping clear maintenance records and documentation.
  • Make sure maintenance activities are completed safely and with limited interruption to residents and staff.
  • Work with the Facility Manager and Property Team to escalate larger repairs or issues when needed.
  • Help maintain a safe, compliant, and homelike environment.
  • Carry out general repair work, grounds care, and regular property inspections.
  • Support the overall appearance and day-to-day functionality of the facility.

Success in this role will come from prior experience in maintenance, facilities, building services, or handyman work, along with practical problem-solving ability and the confidence to work independently. You should be able to manage multiple priorities, communicate well with different stakeholders, and maintain a strong focus on safety and quality.

Preferred background

Experience in aged care, healthcare, retirement living, hospitality, or a similar setting is considered an advantage. Exposure to preventive and corrective maintenance systems will also be valued.
