Lead MEPF Design Engineer

About the Role

This position focuses on leading the Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Firefighting (MEPF) design efforts. The candidate will shape design standards, oversee technical leadership and ensure compliance with relevant codes and sustainability benchmarks for all projects within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Establish comprehensive design protocols, performance benchmarks, and MEPF specifications to align with project objectives and regulatory requirements.
• Develop and enforce design review and approval procedures for external consultants guaranteeing consistency and quality.
• Standardize design documentation deliverables including drawings, bill of quantities (BOQs), and technical specifications across various project categories.
• Lead both internal design teams and external consultants in developing detailed system layouts, schematics, and comprehensive technical documentation.
• Offer expert advice on selection and integration of systems such as HVAC, electrical distribution, lighting, fire detection and suppression, water supply, drainage, and sewage treatment plants.
• Remain abreast of technological advancements, sustainability innovations, and regulatory changes to incorporate these into design approaches.
• Conduct thorough technical reviews and approvals of BOQs, design drawings, calculations, equipment selections, and system size assessments.
• Evaluate technical submissions, shop drawings, and method statements submitted by consultants, vendors, and contractors, ensuring compliance and quality.
• Identify design inconsistencies, conflicts, or inefficiencies and initiate corrective measures in collaboration with consultants and site personnel.
• Serve as the primary liaison for all MEPF design matters during the project’s planning phase.
• Manage consultants relative to scope definition, deliverables, schedules, and approval guidelines.
• Coordinate extensively with architectural, infrastructure, and structural teams to assure seamless design integration.
• Contribute to budget estimations and perform value engineering exercises to optimize costs while maintaining technical standards.
• Engage in technical appraisal of vendor and contractor proposals to align with targeted project expenditures.
• Support project sites by providing technical guidance in early execution stages and resolving design issues on site.
• Assist in commissioning and handover procedures ensuring MEPF system quality assurance.
• Ensure all designs adhere strictly to applicable Indian standards (IS), National Building Code (NBC), Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC), fire safety codes, and local regulatory requirements.
• Compile and deliver detailed technical progress reports and updates to senior management during review and governance sessions.

Candidate Profile

The ideal applicant should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and possess between 17 to 25 years of relevant experience, preferably within real estate developer organizations with significant exposure to MEPF design management and consulting roles. A robust understanding of multidisciplinary design coordination, adherence to national codes, and building services integration is essential. Proficiency with design and project management software such as AutoCAD, Revit MEPF, MS Project, and Primavera is expected.
