Junior Software Engineer

Role overview

As a Junior Software Engineer, you will join the Gaming Technology team to help create, support, and enhance backend applications. Reporting to the Software Engineering Lead, you will work alongside experienced engineers in an agile setting, contributing to both operational stability and ongoing improvements.

This position is broad and fast-paced, and it suits someone who is curious, adaptable, and strong at solving problems. You will also gain exposure to contemporary tools and engineering practices that can help you grow quickly as a software engineer.

What you will do

• Develop, test, and maintain backend applications using modern engineering approaches.
• Investigate live system issues and help resolve production incidents.
• Work with engineers and business stakeholders during agile meetings and delivery cycles.
• Assist with the support and improvement of APIs and backend services in production.
• Help drive continuous improvement and strengthen system performance.
• Handle multiple priorities in a dynamic environment that includes support responsibilities.

Skills and experience needed

You should be an early-career engineer who enjoys solving problems, learning quickly, and working across different technical challenges. A solid backend foundation and a practical approach to live systems are important, along with a resilient and inquisitive mindset.

• Hands-on experience with JavaScript backend development using Node.js and TypeScript.
• Ability to build and support APIs and backend services.
• Strong fault-finding and debugging skills in production environments.
• Comfort with changing priorities and interrupt-driven work.
• Basic exposure to databases and SQL querying.
• Motivation to grow technical capability and deepen understanding of the gaming domain.

Nice to have exposure to

• AWS cloud services or cloud-native development.
• Containerisation tools such as Docker and Kubernetes (EKS).
• Frontend frameworks such as Angular.
