About the Role
Serving at the Federal High Court of Ethiopia, this critical judicial position is based in Addis Ababa. The Judge is entrusted with presiding over federal civil and criminal cases, acting as a cornerstone for legal interpretation, upholding constitutional values, and guaranteeing justice within the federal legal system. Collaboration with other judicial entities and a steadfast dedication to impartiality and the rule of law are intrinsic to the role.
Main Duties
- Oversee court sessions, administer hearings and trials, and maintain order in the courtroom.
- Review and analyze complex case files, evidence, and legal submissions.
- Conduct in-depth legal research on statutes, prior rulings, and regulatory frameworks relevant to each case.
- Interpret Ethiopian federal laws and apply relevant precedents.
- Ensure due process and equitable treatment for all litigants.
- Draft comprehensive, reasoned judgments and articulate written decisions.
- Guide, mentor, and oversee judicial staff and junior legal professionals.
- Engage in ongoing professional development in judicial practices and procedures.
Candidate Requirements
- Thorough understanding of Ethiopian legal systems and judicial processes.
- Demonstrated expertise in criminal law and capacity to handle complex civil matters.
- Advanced ability to research, interpret, and synthesize legal materials.
- Proven experience managing courtroom operations and rendering legal decisions.
- Track record of mentoring or training peers, legal assistants, or junior staff.
- Possession of a law degree, with certification of judicial training or proof of bar admission in Ethiopia.
- Exemplary professional integrity, objectivity, and commitment to judicial ethics.
- Exceptional analytical skills, effective legal writing, and strong communication abilities in relevant languages.
