Inspector - Traffic and Systems

About the role

Join a dynamic team at Transport for NSW working on diverse projects across New South Wales, where you will contribute to shaping the road and transport network landscape. This full-time permanent role is based in Yennora, NSW, and entails a variety of tasks centered on inspection, surveillance, and compliance in Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and third party traffic and systems works.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct inspections and surveillance of ITS assets during both day and night shifts.
• Identify and report asset defects, assist in prioritizing them, and provide input on solutions.
• Manage delegated Works Authorisation Deed (WAD) administration tasks.
• Support third party ITS construction and upgrade projects.
• Contribute actively to asset handover processes.
• Develop expertise in emerging traffic and systems technologies.
• Ensure traffic and ITS outcomes are safe, compliant, and fully functional within a complex road network environment involving multiple stakeholders and evolving technologies.

Candidate profile

• Technical and analytical skills developed through experience with traffic systems, electrical and electronic systems, ITS, and construction project environments.
• Proficiency in inspecting ITS assets, managing WAD administration, and resolving asset performance and compliance concerns.
• Proven ability in supporting project delivery and facilitating asset handovers to maintain safe, reliable, and compliant network operations.
• A strong customer service mindset with collaborative skills, capable of offering practical advice on traffic control and advisory systems.
• Experience with traffic signals, ITS maintenance and construction, coordination with contractors and stakeholders, and interpreting technical plans and diagrams.

Qualifications and requirements

• Possess an electrical trade qualification.
• Hold a valid, current C class driver's license.
• Maintain a White Card certification.
• Technologically proficient in various computer applications.
• Understanding of traffic management and traffic signal work is highly desirable.
• Willingness to travel extensively across NSW and work outside standard hours, including night shifts for commissioning signal works requiring Road Occupation Licenses.
