Role Overview

As a Highway Technician based in INDOT’s Fort Wayne District, you will collaborate closely with the Highway Engineering Assistant to coordinate scheduling and collection of Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) samples. This includes communicating with the construction team to verify sample records before connecting with Materials and Testing (M&T). Additional support duties include assisting district testing engineers with material recordkeeping, aiding materials engineers in mix design reviews, supporting soils and aggregate laboratory operations, and performing other assigned tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate highway maintenance and traffic equipment for upkeep, repair, and cleaning of roads and right-of-way areas.

Candidate Requirements

  • Possess or obtain within 90 days a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • Pass mandatory drug testing as part of employment conditions.
  • Understand federal, state, and local highway construction and maintenance regulations and practices.
  • Knowledge of drafting and surveying methods.
  • Ability to lead and coordinate field crews independently.
  • Competency in reading, interpreting, and following technical documentation.
  • Capable of working under adverse weather conditions.
  • Physically able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform activities such as lifting, dragging, stooping, standing, and prolonged walking.

Additional specialty requirements, if applicable, include:
